Post-emergence, systemic, selective foliage herbicide of the phenoxy group to combat broadleaf weeds in cereals (wheat, barley, rye, oats) and turf. It is mainly absorbed by the weed leaves. It is transferred systemically in plant tissues through both the symplast and the apoplast and accumulates on the meristematic tissue. It causes epinasty and asymmetric growth of plants with typical twisting of their leaves and young shoots and affects respiration, stocks of essential nutrients, and cell division. At the biochemical level 2,4-D acts like natural auxines.
